Learning to Fly

EWDD FUNDS DRONE TRAINING AT EAST LA COLLEGE
EWDD has funded the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Academy at East Los Angeles College, offering an introduction to an emerging key growth industry. The 10-week program focused on the math skills and coding languages needed to program and fly drones. Students learned three programming languages and used their newly developed coding skills to build and fly three different types of drones. Abigail Espinoza, one of three women in the course, is positive that women can succeed in STEM careers particularly when introduced to exciting and practical courses they may not think are possible. “It’s hands on experience in a field that is about to blow up,” said Keanu Paar. “We’re pretty good at it too.”
