With the support of EWDD and $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds as part of the Dunbar Village revitalization project, the new restaurant Delicious at the Dunbar celebrated its grand opening November 8, 2018. The restaurant brings new energy to a location once considered the heart of the Central Avenue jazz scene and cultural center of Los Angeles’ African American community.

In the 1930s, the nightclub at the art deco Dunbar Hotel hosted jazz legends Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and others, before falling into a period of disrepair.

EWDD provided CDBG funds toward the Dunbar Village revitalization project, which will add up to 15 full-time permanent jobs for local community members.

“The crown jewel of Central Avenue is the home of a full-service, sit- down restaurant. Aptly named ‘Delicious,’ it is not only beautiful inside, but the food, a fusion of soul food and Mexican food is flavorful beyond words,” said EWDD General Manager Jan Perry.

Ms. Perry attended the opening, and in her previous role as Councilwoman for the 9th District, helped pave the way for the Dunbar Village project.

“EWDD was proud to work with the council office and Thomas Safran and Associates to bring this amenity to the community for all to enjoy.”
