Alexander Mendez, owner and operator of R&A's Tamales
The Harbor-Watts BusinessSource Center (BSC) provided extensive business coaching to Alexander Mendez, helping him launch R & A's Tamales, a street vending business located in Watts.

Alexander first came into contact with the Harbor Region BusinessSource on June 21, 2019 at a business outreach event in Watts. A Harbor Region BSC Business Coach noticed Alexander as he was setting up a tent and preparing to begin selling his food and beverages.

The Business Coach approached Alexander and explained to him the services that are provided to small businesses located within the City of Los Angeles and recommended that he schedule a one-on-one consultation.

Alexander came into the Harbor-Watts BusinessSource the following week for a needs assessment. The Business Coach provided Alexander information on business structures, licensing and permits, access to capital, and other information regarding street vending.

The Business Coach then assisted Alexander with filing for a Doing Business As (DBA), Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC), and a Seller’s Permit. He also received contact information to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to obtain an application for a food handling license and to remain informed about the new street vending rules.

With the assistance of the Harbor-Watts BusinessSource Center, Alexander was able to officially launch his business and prepare for future growth.
